Lack of intimacy in marriage: why it happens and how it comes back

Growing close again

Twenty-one days to talk about intimacy without it ending in a fight.

21 days · 12 minutes a day · done together

Quick answer

Growing close again is a 21-day journey of about 12 minutes a day to work together on one concrete area: lack of intimacy in marriage. Each day brings a short reflection, a guided conversation and a small practice. You start it when you need it, each at your own pace, and whoever starts it can invite their spouse to walk it together.

Who this journey is for

  • The subject became impossible to raise.
  • One of you reads every refusal as rejection.
  • Non-sexual physical contact disappeared too.

If none of this sounds like you, another journey probably fits better. The free assessment points to it in five minutes.

What you will learn

  • To restore touch with no agenda.
  • To discuss the topic outside the bedroom and while calm.
  • To understand that desire does not always come first.
  • To recognize what needs a medical consultation.

What each day looks like

  1. A short reading

About what is happening, without blaming either of you.

  2. A guided conversation

One concrete question, with a way of asking it that does not end in a fight.

  3. A practice

Something small to do that same day. This is the part that changes something.

  4. At your pace, and together if you want

Each of you marks your own days. If you invite your spouse, you both see each other’s progress.

Without shame

Recognize how intimacy is between you today, with honesty and tenderness. · Genesis 2:24-25

The account of the creation of marriage ends with a simple, profound sentence: the man and his wife were naked, and they felt no shame. Before sin, intimacy was transparent, safe, without fear of being seen or rejected.

After the fall, shame appears. Adam and Eve cover themselves and hide. Since then, human intimacy has been shot through with fear: of not being enough, of being rejected, of being exposed. And in marriage, this shows especially in the intimate life.

Many couples come to this journey with years of silence on the subject. One perhaps desires more closeness and feels rejected; the other feels pressured or uncomfortable. Talking about it became so tense that they'd rather not mention it. But silence solves nothing; it only widens the distance.

Today you won't solve anything. You'll just take a brave first step: acknowledging, honestly and tenderly, how your intimacy is today. God's goal for marriage is still a closeness without shame. In Christ, that restoration is possible.

To practice today

  1. Choose a calm moment, outside the bedroom and away from bedtime.
  2. Each of you rate from 1 to 10 how close you feel physically and how close emotionally. Share the numbers without arguing.
  3. Each of you say one sentence about how you feel about this topic, starting with "I feel…"

To talk about

  • When did you last feel we were truly close, in every sense?
  • What makes it hard for you to talk about this with me?
  • What would you like to be different?

To pray

Lord, You designed our intimacy without shame. We acknowledge there's fear, silence and wounds between us. Give us courage to speak honestly and tenderly. Restore what has cooled. Amen.

Frequently asked questions

How long is the Growing close again journey?

21 days, at about 12 minutes a day. You can pause and pick it up again: progress counts completed days, not calendar days, so a break does not force you to start over.

Do we both have to do it at the same time?

No. Each of you keeps your own progress and can open whichever day you need. Whoever starts the journey can invite their spouse from the app; if they join, each sees the days the other has done. And if your spouse is not ready yet, you can walk it alone.

Do I need to pay to start?

No. Day 1 of every journey is always free. To keep going, the app has a 7-day free trial with no card, and if one spouse subscribes, the other has access too.

What if halfway through we realize we need professional help?

That is a good sign, not a failure of the journey. These journeys accompany and practice; they do not replace counseling or therapy. The healthy move is to do both.
