Pornography in marriage: what it does, what it does not, and the way out

Rebuilding transparency

Thirty days to step out of secrecy, together and with clear agreements.

30 days · 12 minutes a day · done together

Quick answer

Rebuilding transparency is a 30-day journey of about 12 minutes a day to work together on one concrete area: pornography in marriage. Each day brings a short reflection, a guided conversation and a small practice. You start it when you need it, each at your own pace, and whoever starts it can invite their spouse to walk it together.

Who this journey is for

  • Pornography entered the marriage and it is already on the table.
  • There were promises to stop that did not hold.
  • You want to rebuild trust without one of you becoming the watchman.

If none of this sounds like you, another journey probably fits better. The free assessment points to it in five minutes.

What you will learn

  • To separate the behavior from the secrecy, which are two different wounds.
  • To agree on transparency with a review date instead of surveillance.
  • To build accountability outside the marriage.
  • To recover the conversation about your actual intimacy.

What each day looks like

  1. A short reading

About what is happening, without blaming either of you.

  2. A guided conversation

One concrete question, with a way of asking it that does not end in a fight.

  3. A practice

Something small to do that same day. This is the part that changes something.

  4. At your pace, and together if you want

Each of you marks your own days. If you invite your spouse, you both see each other’s progress.

What was hidden

Recognize that the first step of healing is coming into the light. · Ephesians 5:8-13

Paul reminds the Ephesians that they once lived in darkness, but now they are light in the Lord, and urges them to live as children of light. He asks them not to take part in the fruitless deeds of darkness, but to expose them, because everything the light exposes becomes visible and can be transformed.

Pornography feeds on secrecy. It grows in the dark, in what nobody sees, in what is hidden. And while it stays hidden, it has enormous power: it breeds shame, isolation, lies, and a cycle that repeats over and over.

That the topic is now on the table, though it hurts deeply, is good news. It's the first step toward freedom. What comes into the light can be healed. What stays hidden can't.

Today you won't solve anything. You'll just acknowledge, each from your place, where you are. The one who struggles, acknowledging that this step is costly and that they need help. The hurt spouse, acknowledging their pain without needing to hide it. And both, acknowledging that you want to try to heal together.

To practice today

  1. Each of you say in one sentence how you feel today, starting with "I feel…"
  2. The one who struggles says: "I need help and I want to get out of this." The hurt spouse says: "I'm hurt, and I want to try to heal."
  3. Agree that during this journey hard conversations will happen at calm moments, not in the middle of a crisis.

To talk about

  • What was hardest for you about this coming to light?
  • What do you hope for from this journey?
  • What are you afraid of?

To pray

Lord, You are light. What was hidden is now before You and between us. It hurts, but we want to heal. Give us courage, honesty and grace for this journey. Don't leave us alone. Amen.

Frequently asked questions

How long is the Rebuilding transparency journey?

30 days, at about 12 minutes a day. You can pause and pick it up again: progress counts completed days, not calendar days, so a break does not force you to start over.

Do we both have to do it at the same time?

No. Each of you keeps your own progress and can open whichever day you need. Whoever starts the journey can invite their spouse from the app; if they join, each sees the days the other has done. And if your spouse is not ready yet, you can walk it alone.

Do I need to pay to start?

No. Day 1 of every journey is always free. To keep going, the app has a 7-day free trial with no card, and if one spouse subscribes, the other has access too.

What if halfway through we realize we need professional help?

That is a good sign, not a failure of the journey. These journeys accompany and practice; they do not replace counseling or therapy. The healthy move is to do both.
